During a quiet summer week, the Social Equity Task Force Disproportionately Impacted Communities Work Group would continue clarifying the next retail application window.

Here’s a look at cannabis-related policymaking events on the calendar in the week ahead.

Monday June 14th

At publication time, no cannabis-related policymaking events were scheduled.

Tuesday June 15th

On Tuesday at 10am PT, the weekly WSLCB Board Caucus was scheduled to recur.

On Tuesday at 1:30pm PT, the bi-weekly Washington State Health Care Authority (WA HCA) Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) listening session for behavioral health service providers was scheduled to occur.

Wednesday June 16th

On Wednesday at 4pm PT, the Washington State Legislative Task Force on Social Equity in Cannabis Disproportionately Impacted Communities Work Group (WA SECTF - Work Group - Disproportionately Impacted Communities) was scheduled to convene.

  • The first work group established by WA SECTF planned to meet for the fifth time on Wednesday, continuing a pattern of splitting into two breakout groups focused on low-level data analysis and higher-level discussion of social equity plan criteria.
  • The work group last met on May 3rd. The data breakout group recommended spatial mapping to determine disproportionately impacted areas be conducted at the census tract level of analysis, an area larger than census block groups and census blocks.
    • During the 2010 census, Washington state was apportioned into 1,458 census tracts; 4,783 census block groups; and 195,574 census blocks.
  • The social equity plan criteria breakout group proposed a definition of ‘family member’ to clarify a ‘Social Equity Applicant’ is “an applicant who has at-least 51% ownership and control by at least one individual who has been convicted of a marijuana offense (or any drug offense (HB1443)) or is a family member of such an individual.”
  • During the May 25th meeting of the entire task force, work group leaders presented their progress to the larger body. No motions were presented for action.
