While many meetings were cancelled or not scheduled for the holiday week, a new working group at WSDA would consider revisions to the penalty matrix for pesticide violations.

Here’s a look at cannabis-related policymaking events on the calendar in the week ahead.

Tuesday November 23rd

WSDA - Work Group - Pesticide Penalties

On Tuesday at 9am PT, the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) work group on the pesticide penalties rulemaking project was scheduled to convene.

  • In September, WSDA staff restarted a long-dormant general pesticide penalties rulemaking project. Originally opened in December 2019, Department staff refiled the CR-101 on September 1st with only minor modifications to the intent language seeking to revise the penalty structure and increase fees for violations. Agency staff hosted two introductory webinars on September 16th and September 23rd.
    • In May 2020, the Department hosted a presentation on the original rulemaking effort.
  • In mid-November, WSDA Pesticide Compliance Division Case Review Officer Scott Nielsen announced the formation of “a Working Committee to help draft new language for the penalty portion of our pesticide general rules.” The group was scheduled to meet three times on November 23rd, November 30th, and December 14th.
  • On November 23rd, participants would introduce themselves; hear background on the rulemaking effort; review “other state’s rules and matrices, for a comparison”; and consider a “WSDA proposal for a ‘Base’ penalty concept for human exposure & other violations.”

The weekly Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) Board Caucus was cancelled.

Thursday November 25th

The State of Washington recognizes the Thanksgiving holiday.

The State of Washington recognizes Native American Heritage Day.
