WSLCB board members were scheduled to take an important step towards addressing social equity after hearing from public health officials and researchers on cannabis product packaging.

Here’s a look at cannabis-related policymaking events on the calendar in the week ahead.

Monday October 10th

At publication time, no cannabis-related policymaking events were scheduled.

Tuesday October 11th

WSLCB - Board Caucus

On Tuesday at 10am PT, the weekly Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) Board Caucus was scheduled to recur.

  • A “Study on Youth’s Perception of Cannabis Product Packaging” was scheduled for presentation to board members during the caucus by several public health officials and Washington State University (WSU) researchers.
  • Ross-Viles was a member of the Washington State Legislative Task Force on Social Equity in Cannabis Disproportionately Impacted Communities Work Group and expressed concern about the availability of unregulated intoxicating cannabinoid products during the fall 2021 vetting of WSLCB agency request legislation on cannabinoid regulation.
  • Hust and Willoughby co-authored their first academic publication together in 2013 and most recently published Social Media, Marijuana and Sex: An Exploratory Study of Adolescents’ Intentions to Use and College Students’ Use of Marijuana in 2022 which they characterized as highlighting “how social media use is associated with increased exposure to pro-marijuana content for adolescents and college students, and how such content is associated with sex-related marijuana expectancies.”
    • At publication time, WSLCB Policy and Rules staff were accepting pre-proposal comments on a rulemaking project on Advertising which had been previously framed as focused on social media.

Wednesday October 12th

WSLCB - Board Meeting

On Wednesday at 10am PT, the bi-weekly WSLCB Board Meeting was scheduled to recur.

WSLCB - Executive Management Team

On Wednesday at 1:30pm PT, the three-member Board and agency leadership were scheduled to convene their monthly WSLCB Executive Management Team (EMT) meeting.

Thursday October 13th

WIDAC - Council Meeting

On Thursday at 9:30am PT, the Washington Impaired Driving Advisory Council (WIDAC) planned to convene for its quarterly meeting.

  • Through the WIDAC, the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC) hears from agencies and organizations working to reduce impaired driving, and helps coordinate their work. The advisory council is made up of 10 voting members from 7 state agencies with direct responsibility for traffic safety as well as 15 advisory members with expertise in prevention, deterrence, treatment, rehabilitation, and program management. The WIDAC meets quarterly and last convened on July 14th.
