WA Hemp in Food Task Force - Meeting
On Wednesday at 1pm PT, the Washington State Hemp in Food Task Force (WA Hemp in Food Task Force) was scheduled to convene.
- [ Event Details ]
- The WA Hemp in Food Task Force last met on August 31st. Group members cancelled the previous two scheduled meetings.
- According to the last rescheduling notice published on September 12th, WSDA leadership and “others representing state agencies on the Task Force met today and committed to providing the requested direction, guidance, and timelines to the group by September 21.”
- During the first meetings of the Definitions Work Group as well as the Concentration and Safety Work Group, members returned to the task force with requests for needed data including information on cannabidiol (CBD) “and what’s been done from clinical trial perspective, as well as state-by-state, or country-by-country.”
- Additionally, the Concentration and Safety Work Group members anticipated waiting “for the Definitions [work] group to get back on” defining impairment or what constituted “compounds that have the probability or potential of getting people impaired.”
- The cancellation notice went on to specify, “The agenda for September 21 will also include Joy Beckerman's presentation.”
- During the August 17th meeting of the task force, Joy Beckerman, Hemp Ace International Founder and Colorado Hemp Works Senior Advisor and Co-Founder, promised to present what she’d learned about policies in other states and countries. At the beginning of the August 31st meeting, WA Hemp in Food Task Force facilitator Steven Byers acknowledged that Beckerman had been unable to attend.
- While the task force membership continued to expand, visible progress appeared to have stalled. Cannabis Observer had not been invited to observe the proceedings of the work groups, which may have continued meeting in the interim.
- Formal recommendations from the task force remained due to the legislature by December 2022.
