DOE - Accreditation of Cannabis Laboratories - Scientist and Microscope

Lab participants would get a glimpse of rulemaking procedure at the Department of Ecology and the Cannabinoid Science Work Group planned to convene under the WSLCB Research Unit.

Here’s a look at cannabis-related policymaking events on the calendar in the week ahead.

Tuesday August 1st

WSLCB - Board Caucus

On Tuesday at 10am PT, the weekly Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) Board Caucus was scheduled to recur.

Wednesday August 2nd

DOE - Webinar - Accreditation of Cannabis Laboratories - Public Workshop

On Wednesday at 9am PT, the first of two Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) webinar workshops on the Accreditation of Cannabis Laboratories was scheduled to occur.

  • On June 21st, Ecology staff initiated rulemaking as part of the transition of responsibility for cannabis lab accreditation from WSLCB to other state agencies.
    • At publication time, Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) staff were well underway on more primary rulemaking to define cannabis lab accreditation standards. Ecology staff would then perform accreditation testing to gauge the capacity of private labs to meet and abide by the WSDA rules.
    • At publication time, WSLCB staff had not announced complementary rulemaking to remove lab standards and accreditation requirements from their own rules.
  • On Wednesday July 26th, DOE staff released draft conceptual rules and announced two public workshops to “share our rule development process and listen to suggestions on the draft rules.”

WSLCB - Board Meeting

On Wednesday at 10am PT, the bi-weekly WSLCB Board Meeting was scheduled to recur.

Thursday August 3rd

WSLCB - Work Group - Cannabinoid Science - Public Meeting

On Thursday at 10am PT, the WSLCB Cannabinoid Science Work Group planned to convene its quarterly meeting.

  • The Cannabinoid Science Work Group last convened on June 1st when members contemplated human safety guidance for different cannabis products, considered research on growing cannabis in contaminated soil, and discussed implementing a new standard for THC detectability.
  • This meeting would mark the first public activity of the WSLCB Research Unit under the guidance of Research Manager Kathy Hoffman, who brought this work with her from the Policy and Rules team.

Friday August 4th
