During a quiet public-facing week for cannabis-related policymaking, regulatory action continued around legacy environmental pesticides, rulemaking, and preparations for a new Director.

Tuesday June 13th
WSLCB - Board Caucus
On Tuesday at 10am PT, the weekly Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) Board Caucus was scheduled to recur.

- During the caucus on Monday June 5th, staff brought the board up to speed on several cannabis rulemaking projects, and briefed on a petition seeking to raise action levels for a legacy environmental pesticide.
- That rulemaking petition was subsequently rejected during the Wednesday June 7th Board Meeting after members heard a legacy environmental pesticide action update from Director of Enforcement and Education Chandra Wax. During general public comment at that meeting, I asked the board members to advocate for some of the $5M Department of Ecology soil remediation pilot program funds to be used to collect data on the effectiveness of various hemp and cannabis cultivars in removing contaminants from soil (audio - 4m, video - WSLCB, video - TVW, written comments).
Wednesday June 14th
WSLCB - Executive Management Team
On Wednesday at 1:30pm PT, the three-member Board and agency leadership were scheduled to convene their monthly WSLCB Executive Management Team (EMT) meeting.

- During the May 10th EMT, reporting touched on why Licensing staff were “hands off” in the new phase of social equity applications and the expedited relocation of some producers over environmental pesticide concerns. Other updates recognized the impending departure of Director Rick Garza, continued staff work on behalf of the Cannabis Regulators Association (CANNRA), and agency leader involvement in medical cannabis rulemaking underway at the Washington State Department of Health (DOH).
- After a months-long search, Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (CO MED) Deputy Chief of Licensing Investigations and Operations William Lukela was voted in as the new agency director on June 1st.
- At publication time, a CR-102 containing proposed rules had not been filed on the DOH medical cannabis rulemaking project.
