Director Rick Garza brought up a “really good meeting” with stakeholders the day before on the Packaging and Labeling rulemaking project (PAL) where agency staff learned more from Colorado and Oregon regulators about those jurisdiction’s PAL rules. There was general agreement that Oregon had a better program.

The WSLCB was open to new approaches to regulating Washington state’s cannabis supply chain besides “seed-to-sale” traceability.

The WSLCB planned a busy week of meetings following the signing of a constrained contract amendment with MJ Freeway.

The council addressed five top agency priorities: medical cannabis, small business opportunities, social equity, the 2020 legislative session, and prevention.

In a successful test of an innovative meeting format, the agency gathered feedback from the regulated community on cannabis sampling, cannabis testing, and lab proficiency testing.

The House Commerce and Gaming Committee hosted a public hearing on SB 5318 - “Reforming the compliance and enforcement provisions for marijuana licensees.”

The committee heard advocates for a Washington Cannabis Commission and passed bills to establish a hemp program, create new compensation structures, and shift lab accreditation to Ecology.

The House committee hosted public hearings for three cannabis bills: HB 1237, HB 1236, and HB 1289.
