The Board prepared for its road trip to Bothell, learned about pyrethrins, and inserted itself into a process of legal interpretation occurring in the Enforcement division.

The Board reviewed stakeholder meetings on agency rulemaking projects and considered how to on-board an economist.

Director Rick Garza brought up a “really good meeting” with stakeholders the day before on the Packaging and Labeling rulemaking project (PAL) where agency staff learned more from Colorado and Oregon regulators about those jurisdiction’s PAL rules. There was general agreement that Oregon had a better program.

The Board heard a rulemaking update and public testimony on the burdens of compliance with the new packaging and labeling rules, traceability, and retail in Centralia.

The council addressed five top agency priorities: medical cannabis, small business opportunities, social equity, the 2020 legislative session, and prevention.

In addition to planned rulemaking, the Board received an official update and public comment about the on-going issues with MJ Freeway’s traceability system.

The MJ Freeway Leaf 1.37.5 release and data migration were implemented plus new details on this week’s planned public meetings.

On April 8th, the House Appropriations Committee hosted a public hearing for SB 5318.

On Monday April 1st, the Senate Labor and Commerce Committee hosted a public hearing for SB 5985, “Concerning provisions impacting marijuana business licensees.”

The Senate Labor and Commerce Committee hosted a public hearing on HB 1794 – “Concerning agreements between licensed marijuana businesses and other people and businesses, including royalty and licensing agreements relating to the use of intellectual property.”
