Washington State gets a new version of MJ Freeway Leaf Data Systems + two listening sessions on a proposed marijuana lab license controlled by WSLCB.
Here’s a look at the week ahead. It’s going to be a busy week!
TODAY: On Monday June 3rd at 1:30pm PT @ WSLCB, the agency will host the first of two “listen and learn forums” on marijuana lab licensure. This is a separate topic from the earlier listening session on quality assurance and product requirements (for which a second meeting has not yet been announced). This session concerns the possibility of introducing a new WSLCB license type for laboratories, in addition to the accreditation currently required. From the announcement (May 15, 2019):
House Bill 2052, which passed during the 2019 Washington State legislative session, begins the process of moving marijuana laboratory accreditation to the Department of Ecology (DOE). In the future, labs are required to maintain accreditation with DOE and maintain a valid business license with the Department of Revenue.
A possible future mandate (employed by a number of other states regulating marijuana) is to require lab accreditation as a pre-requisite for licensure with the agency tasked with marijuana regulation.
We will ask for your feedback in a structured forum to gather input on the topic of lab licensure with WSLCB. A new license type for labs would require a legislative change.
If you can’t make it in person, there is a webinar option available to watch the proceedings. At the QA listening session, webinar participants were view only and were not empowered to participate remotely.
Preparations for Thursday’s launch of the next version of Washington State’s implementation of MJ Freeway’s Leaf Data System begins late Monday night. Leaf will be down three nights leading up to the launch:
- Monday, 6/3 11:00pm – Tuesday, 6/4 7:00am
- Tuesday, 6/4 11:00pm – Wednesday, 6/5 7:00am
- Thursday, 6/6 2:00am – Thursday, 6/6 8:00am
TUESDAY: On Tuesday June 4th at 10am PT @ WSLCB, the weekly Board Caucus recurs.
WEDNESDAY: On Wednesday June 5th at 9am PT @ the Spokane Convention Center, the WSLCB will host the second listen and learn forum on marijuana lab licensure. There is no webinar option available for this meeting.
At 1:30pm PT @ WSLCB, the three-member Board and agency leadership convene their weekly Executive Management Team meeting, currently on a bi-weekly cadence.
THURSDAY: On Thursday June 6th at 8am PT, the Washington State cannabis industry should gain access to a new version of MJ Freeway’s Leaf Data Systems. Software Release 1.37.5 has been a long time coming and includes substantial updates which are likely to impact many licensee workflows. At the prompting of licensees and the Traceability Advisory Committee, WSLCB and MJ Freeway have generated more documentation and training resources for this release than ever before.
